Biography

Brian Setzer Orchestra was formed in 1992 by Brian Setzer, a Long Island native who had played euphonium in school jazz bands before turning to rockabilly with the Stray Cats. After the Stray Cats disbanded, Setzer pursued a solo career and assembled a big‑band outfit that blended swing, jump blues and rockabilly. The group’s debut album, The Brian Setzer Orchestra (1994), introduced the style and was followed by The Dirty Boogie (1998), which featured the hit cover "Jump, Jive an' Wail", reaching the Billboard singles chart. Subsequent releases-Dig That Crazy Christmas (2005), Songs From Lonely Avenue (2009), and Don't Mess With A Big Band (2010)-expanded the catalogue, while live recordings such as Brian Setzer Orchestra Live: Christmas Rocks! (2018) documented touring activity. The orchestra regularly performed holiday concerts, including the Rockefeller Center tree‑lighting ceremony, and embarked on the “Christmas Rocks! 2017” tour. Notable achievements include chart success with "Jump, Jive an' Wail" and the consistent presence of the band on the Billboard charts throughout the 2000s, solidifying its role in the swing revival movement.
