Biography
Brendan Bowyer (born October 12, 1938) was an Irish rock and roll singer from Waterford. Bowyer began his career with the Royal Showband in 1957. In September 1963, the band became the first Irish act to top the Irish Singles Chart with the recording "Kiss Me Quick", which remained at Number One for seven weeks. The group returned to the top position in 1963 with the recording "No More" and in 1964 with "Bless You". In 1965, Bowyer reached Number One with the recordings "The Hucklebuck" and "Don't Lose Your Hucklebuck Shoes". He performed the recording "Suddenly in Love" in the 1965 Irish National Song Contest. In 1971, Bowyer formed the group The Big Eight and relocated permanently to Las Vegas. He reached the Irish charts in 1977 with the recording "Thank You Elvis" and released the album Follow On in 2001. Bowyer died on May 28, 2020.
