Biography
Omara "Bombino" Moctar, also known as Bombino, was born on January 1, 1980, in Tidene, Niger, and is a Nigerien singer and musician. He began playing guitar during his exile in Algeria following the 1990 Buzaye Rebellion. In 2007, filmmaker Hisham Mayet recorded Bombino and his band during a wedding performance. The recording was released in 2009 on Group Bombino - Guitars from Agadez, Vol. 2 through Sublime Frequencies. After another rebellion in 2007 and forced exile in Burkina Faso, he joined the international performing band Tidawt. In January 2010, he returned to Niger and released his first international album, Agadez (2011), which debuted at Number 1 on the iTunes World Chart. His subsequent albums include Nomad (2013), Azel (2016), Deran (2018), and Sahel (2023).
