Biography

Italian singer Roberto Satti, known professionally as Bobby Solo, was born on March 18, 1945, in Rome, Italy. Specializing in rock 'n' roll and schlager music and influenced by Elvis Presley, Satti began his musical journey after moving to Milan with his family, where he met Franz Di Cioccio. Together, they formed a rock 'n' roll duo. In 1963, Bobby Solo signed his first record deal with Dischi Ricordi and released his initial singles under the pseudonym Bobby Solo. His breakthrough came in 1964 at the Sanremo Festival, where he performed "Una lacrima sul viso" with Frankie Laine. Despite a throat infection that prevented him from singing live in the final, the song became a massive hit and his first Number 1 single. This success led to the release of several German-language schlager songs. In 1965, Solo returned to Sanremo and won first place with "Se piangi, se ridi" (together with the New Christy Minstrels), which also topped the Italian charts and reached fifth place at the Eurovision Song Contest in Naples. Throughout the late 1960s, he continued to release successful singles and albums, including collaborations with Connie Francis and Iva Zanicchi. His second Sanremo victory came in 1969 with "Zingara". However, his popularity began to wane in the early 1970s, though he made a comeback in 1978 with a disco version of "Una lacrima sul viso" and continued to release albums and perform regularly.
