In 1995, Bluetile Lounge recorded their debut album Lowercase at the Masonic Hall in Fremantle, which was distributed by Sub Pop and Shock Records. The band gained international attention after playing at the Perth leg of the 1996 Summersault music festival following an invitation from Sonic Youth. Their second LP, Half-Cut, was released in 1998 on Steve Shelley's label Smells Like Records. Bluetile Lounge entered a hiatus in 1998 but continued to gain a cult following through online platforms like Tumblr and Last.fm. Both original albums were reissued in 2022, with new artwork by band member Howard Healy. The group reformed in 2021, releasing the demo track "Last Men" on Bandcamp and announcing plans for additional new recordings.
