Biography

Billy Pilgrim was an American folk rock duo based in Atlanta, Georgia, formed by Andrew Hyra and Kristian Bush. Their name was inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's novel Slaughterhouse-Five. In 1990, Hyra and Bush began performing together in Knoxville, Tennessee. Their first release, the cassette St. Christopher's Crossing, appeared in 1991. After signing with Atlantic Records, they released their debut album Billy Pilgrim (1994). Billy Pilgrim achieved moderate success with singles such as "Insomniac" (1994) and "Get Me Out Of Here" (1994). Their second major-label release, Bloom (1995), reached number 37 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Despite being dropped by Atlantic in early 1996, they released albums independently until their final effort, In the Time Machine (2001). Both Hyra and Bush pursued solo careers and other collaborations following their hiatus. In 2024, Billy Pilgrim reunited for several shows, including performances at the Grand Old Opry.
