William Robert Mize, known as Billy Mize, was a country music singer-songwriter and steel guitarist born in the United States in 1929. Mize began playing the steel guitar at 18 and later performed in Bakersfield, California. In 1953, he co-hosted The Cousin Herb Trading Post Show, where he used the nickname âBilly The Kidâ. Mize achieved his first chart success in 1966 with the song âYou Can't Stop Meâ. He managed 11 chart hits during his career. Mize won the Academy of Country Music TV Personality of the Year award from 1965 to 1967. His albums included Please Don't Let The Blues Make You Bad (1965), Lights Of Albuquerque (1967), and This Time and Place (1969). The documentary Billy Mize and the Bakersfield Sound (2015) chronicled his life.
