Biography

A gifted and versatile pianist, Benoît Delbecq's early musical training prepared him for demanding projects in contemporary jazz, improvised and avant-garde music. A master of both writing and sound production techniques, he has taken part in a multitude of ambitious projects: Hask, Ambitronix with Steve Arguelles, Delbecq 5, Delbecq Unit, The Recyclers and various artistic performances (readings with writer Olivier Cadiot). Awarded the Villa Médicis prize in 2001 and the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles-Cros for Circles And Calligrams (2010), he has released other albums in duo, trio or solo(Nu Turn, 2003). In 2012, the disciple of Cecil Taylor and Mal Waldron unveils a little-known side of Duke Ellington in Crescendo in Duke. After Fun House (2013), he collaborates with Joëlle Léandre and Carnage the Executioner on Tout Va Monter (2015).
