Ben Paterson, born June 23, 1982, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American jazz pianist. He graduated from the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and later attended the University of Chicago. In 2005, Paterson began his professional career as a pianist for NEA Jazz Master Von Freeman in Chicago. That same year, he moved to New York City to further his career. He has performed at notable events such as the Montreal Jazz Fest and the Chicago Jazz Fests, as well as international shows. In 2018, he won the inaugural Ellis Marsalis Jazz Piano Competition, receiving a $25,000 cash prize. Paterson's discography includes albums like Breathing Space (2007), Blues for Oscar (2012), and Live at Van Gelder's (2018). He has collaborated with artists such as Samara Joy on her Grammy Award-winning album Linger Awhile. Paterson is also a designated Steinway Artist.
