Biography

Basta Lion (born Veloarson Maurizio Loïc, December 27, 1991, in Mahajanga) is a Malagasy reggae/dancehall singer-songwriter whose path to music began in Nosy Be after a youth focused on football, including time with the club TCO. He developed a fast, punchy vocal style shaped by reggae and dancehall foundations and later connected with European sound-system culture, most notably through a collaboration with Geneva-based Little Lion Sound: his song “Make Money” was reworked into a dubplate for their WYFL Riddim clashes and helped trigger a wider international spotlight when that riddim topped rankings in Kingston, Jamaica. Alongside his singles run, his discography includes the EP Alerte (2019), the album Hell ville town (2020), and Favelas (2021), which cemented his modern dancehall lane and produced key catalog titles associated with his name. He kept building in the 2020s with MADAJAM (2023) and WICKED (2023), then shifted into a more melodic, feature-friendly phase on Mr Love - EP (2025) before launching 2026 with the album Back Again (2026).
