Biography

Basement Birds were an Australian indie pop rock group formed in mid-2009, comprising singer-songwriters Kevin Mitchell, Steve Parkin, Josh Pyke, and Kavyen Temperley. The band's inception was driven by a shared love for lush vocal harmonies and alt-country style, with influences including Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Wilco. Their debut single "Waiting for You" premiered on Australian radio station Triple J in April 2010. Basement Birds released their self-titled album on July 16, 2010, which peaked at number 12 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The group supported the album with a national tour and released several EPs, including Skin of the Sky, Reasons, and Bus Stop in 2010. Their final performance took place in Perth in April 2011, after which the band disbanded. Following their breakup, each member returned to their respective groups or solo careers.
