Biography

Barney McAll, born January 3, 1966 in Australia, is a jazz pianist and composer. He completed his Bachelor of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne and later studied with Charlie Banacos, Barry Harris, and Chucho Valdés. In 1997, McAll joined Gary Bartz's band and, throughout his career, collaborated with numerous notable musicians, including Dewey Redman, Roy Ayers, Maceo Parker, and Jimmy Cobb. McAll has released several albums, notably Exit (1995) and Mooroolbark (2015), which won the Best Jazz Album at the ARIA Music Awards of 2015. He also worked as musical director for Australian vocalist Sia from 2011 to 2012 and curated the APRA AMCOS Art Music Awards from 2019 to 2023. McAll's ensembles include M.O.D.A.S, GRAFT, ASIO (Australian Symbiotic Improvisers Orbit), Non-Compliance, and Precious Energy.
