Biography

Formed in Bahia in 1992, Banda Patrulha initially gained attention with a vibrant blend of axé, samba-reggae, and candomblé rhythms, driven by early hits like “Crina Negra” that became staples on Carnival stages; their debut album Orixás followed in 1992, succeeded by Patrulha II (1993) and Na Rua (1994), which cemented their place in the Bahian music scene. Throughout the late 1990s, they toured extensively across Brazil, sharing stages with dance troupes and TV variety shows and contributing to compilations, while evolving their sound through live percussion-heavy performances. A 2014 SoundCloud revival reintroduced tracks like “Pérola Axé,” “Levanta Reggae,” and “Chamego Nego,” showing their ongoing studio work, and in recent years they’ve returned to performing axé classics at regional festivals and Carnival revivals. In 2023–24 the band embraced nostalgia, headlining retro axé shows in Salvador and São Paulo and appearing on television specials, and in 2025 they marked their 30th anniversary with renewed recordings, slated vinyl reissues, and renewed online engagement with classic tracks like “Orixás” and “Crina Negra,” boasting revitalized interest across social media dance trends and streaming playlists.
