Carrapicho was formed in 1980 in Manaus, Brazil, by a group of musicians from the state of Amazonas, with Zezinho Corrêa as the lead vocalist. The ensemble first gained attention with the single "Tic Tic Tac" in 1996, which later reached Number 1 in France and entered the Top 10 in Belgium and Spain, while charting at number 34 on Brazilâs yearâend list. The groupâs debut album Rebola (1997) was released under BMG, followed by Pagode & Axé No JT (1998) and Fiesta De Boï Bumba (1996). Carrapicho toured extensively across South America and Europe, and collaborated with producer Frank Farian on a remix of "Tic Tic Tac" in 1997. The band entered a hiatus from 2002 to 2007 before resuming activity until the death of Zezinho Corrêa on 6 February 2021, aged 69, due to COVIDâ19. Carrapichoâs catalog, totaling over 15 million records worldwide, remains a significant contribution to the dissemination of Amazonian musical culture.
