Biography

Born in Tunis in 1980, Badiaa Bouhrizi, aka Neysatu, began her musical career as a soloist in local choirs, before joining the Tahar Haddad choir. As a teenager, she explored rock, guitar and composition. Moving to Paris to study musicology, she forged a minimalist style influenced by the Amazigh music of north-western Tunisia. In 2011, she launched her solo career in Cairo, accompanied by percussionist David Kuckhermann. That same year, she won the prize for best alternative Arab song with"Ila Salma". A human rights activist, her protest songs became anthems of the Tunisian revolution. Banned from performing in Tunisia, she pursued an international career, mixing fuṣḥá, jazz, reggae and electronic music. In 2023, she released"KahruMusiqa", a compilation of ten years of creation between Tunis, London and Paris.
