Biography

Back of the Moon was a Scottish musical group from the Isle of Arran, formed in 2000. The band initially consisted of Gillian Frame on fiddle and vocals, Simon McKerrell on border pipes and whistles, Hamish Napier on piano and whistles, and Findlay Napier on guitar and vocals. They released their debut album Gillian Frame & Back of the Moon in 2001 after Frame won the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician award. The band changed its name to simply Back of the Moon in 2003 following the release of their second album, Fortune's Road. They signed with Foot Stompin' Records and toured extensively throughout the UK, Canada, United States, and eight different European countries. In 2005, they released their third album, Luminosity, and won Best Folk Band at the Scots Trad Music Awards. The band played their final US tour in November 2007 at the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC.
