Biography

Austrian black metal band Abigor was founded in 1993 by Peter Kubik and Thomas Tannenberger. Their early works, including the demo Ash Nazg…, featured influences from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The band released their debut album, Verwüstung / Invoke the Dark Age, on August 7, 1994 under Napalm Records, which significantly boosted the label’s financial standing. Elisabeth Toriser contributed vocals to the album Nachthymnen (From the Twilight Kingdom), and Hendrik „JFN“ Möbus of Absurd wrote the lyrics for "The Dark Kiss". The band's departure from the Austrian Black Metal Syndicate sparked controversy within the scene. In 2003, Abigor disbanded due to internal issues. They reformed in 2006 and released Fractal Possession under End All Life Productions on June 5, 2007. Peter Kubik passed away by suicide on September 3, 2024.
