Ava Inferi was a Portuguese doom metal band formed in 2005 by Rune Eriksen, a member of the Norwegian black metal group Mayhem. The band originated from Almada and included Carmen Susana Simões on vocals, Jaime Ferreira on bass, and João Samora on drums. Ava Inferi released their debut album Burdens in April 2006 via Season of Mist, marking a shift from Eriksen's previous black metal style to doom metal with melancholic fado-inspired vocals. The band's second album, The Silhouette, was released in October 2007 and showcased their signature dark, elegiac sound. In May 2009, they released Blood of Bacchus, featuring a collaboration with Kristoffer "Garm" Rygg from Ulver. Ava Inferi performed at notable festivals such as Hellfest 2008 and Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2009. Their final album, Onyx, was released in February 2011. The band announced their separation in May 2013.
