Biography

Auktyon is a Russian alternative rock band from Saint Petersburg, founded in 1978 at the Polytechnic Institute of Leningrad, USSR by Leonid Fedorov. They initially played post-punk and new wave music but later incorporated elements of European and Central Asian folk music, avant-garde jazz, and Russian high culture into their sound. Their early releases included Kak ya stal predatelem (1989) and V Bagdade vse spokoyno (1989). Auktyon gained significant popularity from 1987 through 1995, with notable albums such as Zhopa (1990), Bodun (1991), and Ptitsa (1994). The band toured the United States in 2006 to support the compilation album Pioner, marking their first US release. Other albums include Eto mama (2002), Devushki poyut (2007), Yula (2011), Skorpion (2014), Na Solntse (2016), Mechty (2020), and Sokrovistche (2025).
