Biography
The Augsburger Domsingknaben (Augsburg Cathedral Boys' Choir), a choir based in Augsburg, Germany, were founded in 1976 by Reinhard Kammler. The group consists of approximately 350 boys and men who receive vocal training and perform classical choral literature. The choir's history dates back to the 15th century when boy singers were first documented performing Gregorian chant at Augsburg Cathedral. After a hiatus due to secularization in the early 19th century, Kammler reestablished the choir under the Diocese of Augsburg. Under his leadership until 2019, the Augsburger Domsingknaben gained prominence through national and international tours and notable recordings such as The Augsburg Cathedral Boys Choir (2014) and Still, O Earth - Otto Jochum: A Christmas Caroling (2005). The choir has won several awards, including the German Choir Competition in Cologne in 1982 and the Cultural Prize of the Bavarian People's Foundation in 2001. Stefan Steinemann took over artistic direction in 2020, continuing the group's tradition of high-level vocal training and performance.
