The west coast American R&B trio Art nâ Soul began in Oakland, California in 1996 when singer and bass player Sam Bostic, who had been working primarily as a record producer for west-coast rap artists like 2Pac, joined forces with keyboardist Rodney Lattrel Evans and drummer Dion Riley. Through an association with Timothy Christian Riley, one third of the trio Tony! Toni! Toné!, they were signed to Big Beat Records. Their wone and only album, 1996âs Touch of Soul, showcased their R&B and soul skills. It was a top 40 R&B album, largely on the strength of the single âEver Since You Went Awayâ, a number 19 R&B hit that scraped the lower rungs of the pop chart and would eventually be certified gold. The follow up single, âAll My Loveâ got little attention, and the band split in 1999. Bostic would release a solo album a decade later.
