Biography

Arif Sağ, born on February 25, 1945 in Dallı, Aşkale, Erzurum, Turkey, is a Turkish singer and bağlama virtuoso. He began playing the kaval at age five and learned the bağlama by six, eventually moving to Istanbul for formal training under Nida Tüfekçi. Sağ's career took off in the late 1960s when he started working at TRT Radio Istanbul, where he recorded his first singles, "Gafil Gezme Şaşkın" (1966) and "Koca Dünya / Aşka Susamışım" (1968). His early albums included Oyun Havaları (1978) and İnsan Olmaya Geldim (1983). Notable collaborations include the serial album Muhabbet 1, recorded with Musa Eroğlu and Muhlis Akarsu. In 1996, Sağ performed at the Kölner Philharmonie with Erdal Erzincan and Erol Parlak, accompanied by the Cologne symphony orchestra, introducing Anatolian music to Western audiences. He also had a political career, serving as a member of the Grand National Assembly from 1987 to 1991.
