Ansgar Striepens, born on April 7, 1965, in Werne, Germany, is a trombonist known for his contributions to jazz. He began playing various instruments as a child before settling on the trombone at age twelve. Striepens' interest in jazz sparked at fifteen, leading him to study under Stefan Bauer and join the Dortmund jazz scene. When he was nineteen, he won the Jugend Jazz competition and joined the North Rhine-Westphalia Youth Jazz Orchestra. He released the album Tunnel Vision â Music for Jazz Orchestra in 1999 with Ed Partyka and followed it with Dreams & Realities in 2002. Striepens was appointed as a professor at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar in 1996, but left in 2004 to focus on composition and arranging. His work with the WDR Big Band, including the album Winterwunderwelt, achieved significant success, spending four weeks on the German Album Charts and earning four Jazz Awards.
