Biography

Angel Moraes, born on August 7, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American DJ who began his career as a truck driver before transitioning into the music industry. He started performing as a club DJ in the mid-1980s and gained prominence in the early 1990s at notable New York clubs such as Sound Factory. His first single, "Release Yourself", was released in 1993. In 1996, Moraes achieved significant chart success with "Welcome to the Factory" featuring Sally Cortes, which reached number 8 on the Billboard Dance Charts. That same year, his track "Time to Get Down" featuring Cortes and Octavia Lambertis peaked at number 36 on the same chart. His single "Heaven Knows / Deep Deep Down" entered the UK charts at number 72. In 1997, a remix of his 1994 track "I Like It", also featuring Lambertis, reached number 70 in the UK. Moraes continued to release albums and singles throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, including Turn It Up in 2002, which was his last charting single in the UK. He also founded the label Hot ’n’ Spycy and co-founded the Stereo Club in Montreal, Canada. Moraes passed away on February 27, 2021.
