Biography

Colonel Abrams released his self-titled debut album in 1985 after signing to MCA records where he quickly became one of the label's rising stars. The album went to number 13 on the R&B charts, spawning a number one single in the dance charts, and was followed up by a similarly successful second album which also generated a number one dance hit. Abrams' brand of R&B and hip-hop found favour with audiences worldwide and the singer enjoyed hits both in the US and in Europe. His contemporary album sleeves show a self-assured, dapper young man at the peak of his career and give no clue as to the tragic circumstances he would eventually find himself in. After going on to have four number one dance hits in the 1980s and becoming a major player in the profitable disco genre, Abrams' career faltered in the late 1990s. His final hit single was 'How Soon We Forget' which has a poignancy because a few years later Abrams' found himself homeless and in poor health due to problems with diabetes. Fans of the singer joined together in a crowdfunding campaign to help alleviate his problems and obtain some medical cover but unfortunately their efforts were in vain and the singer died on Thanksgiving in 2016.
