Biography

American Head Charge, formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, emerged from early 1990s metal circles with founding members Cameron Heacock (vocals, 1996–2009, 2011–2017) and Chad Hanks (bass, 1996–2009, 2011–2017). The band’s first independent release, Trepanation (1999), introduced a blend of industrial and nu‑metal influences, setting the stage for a major‑label deal. In 2001, American Head Charge signed with American Recordings and released The War Of Art (August 28, 2001), which sold over 250,000 copies worldwide and earned two Kerrang! Award nominations. The band followed with the EP Ufc Ultimate Beatdowns Vol.1 Metal (August 24, 2004) and the studio album The Feeding (February 15, 2005), the latter spawning the single "Loyalty" and a music video featuring Chuck Lidell. After a period of touring, lineup changes, and a 2007 DVD release Can't Stop the Machine, the group entered a hiatus in 2007, briefly reuniting in 2011 to record the EP Shoot (July 23, 2013). In 2016, they issued Tango Umbrella through Napalm Records, adding to their catalog. The band’s legacy includes a star on Minneapolis’ First Avenue mural and posthumous recognition following Chad Hanks’ death in November 2017; American Head Charge’s influence remains documented in contemporary metal histories.
