Biography

Founded in France in 1979, Ottawan is a French pop music duo consisting of Caribbean-born singers Patrick Jean-Baptiste and Annette Eltice. After singing in church choirs as a child, Jean-Baptiste moved to Paris to focus on a career in music, founding the group Black Underground. Discovered by renowned music producer Daniel Vangarde in a Parisian bar, he was invite to perform with Annette Eltice, a vocalist and dancer on a new project Vangarde was creating with Belgian producer Jean Kluger. Their debut single “D.I.S.C.O” reached number 2 in September 1980 and certified silver, followed by “Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)” in 1981 which achieved similar chart success, climbing to number 1 in New Zealand.
