Biography
Alon Yavnai (born 1969) is an Israel-born jazz pianist and composer. Yavnai began playing piano at age four and accompanied singers professionally from age thirteen. After graduating from the Thelma Yellin High School for Arts and the Givatayim Conservatory, Yavnai studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He won first place in the Great American Jazz Piano Competition. Yavnai released his debut album, D.S. Al Coda, in 2001. As a member of the Paquito DâRivera Quintet, he won a 2008 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album for Funk Tango, which featured his composition âFunk Tangoâ. That same year, Yavnai released the solo and trio album Travel Notes. Subsequent recordings include Shir Ahava (2012) with the NDR Bigband and Reconnect (2016) with Jesper Riis. Yavnai performed with artists including Regina Carter, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Lovano, Nancy Wilson, and Ravi Coltrane.
