Latin Grammy-nominated Spanish singer-songwriter Ãlex Ubago (born on January 29, 1981, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava) began writing music as a teenager in San Sebastian before releasing his chart-topping debut album, Que Pides Tu? in 2001 and building up a national fanbase. Born Alejandro MartÃnez de Ubago RodrÃguez on January 29, 1981 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country, Spain, Rodriguez's second studio album, 2004's Fantasia o Realidad, catapulted him onto the international stage, with the album going double-platinum in Mexico and earning him a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist in 2003. He received another Latin Grammy nomination (Male Pop Vocal Album) for his fourth studio album, 2009's Calle Illusión. The album reached number 3 on the Spanish Album Charts. Two more studio albums followed, 2012's Latin pop offering Mentiras Sinceras and 2017's Canciones Impuntuales, which featured a collaboration with Puerto Rican star Luis Fonsi, "Cuenta Conmigo." Ãlex Ubago spent the following years mostly focused on singles and special projects, recording in 2019 a Catalan version of âSin miedo a nadaâ titled âSense por de resâ for TV3âs charity album El Disc de la Marató 2019 and, in 2020, taking part in the all-star benefit single âResistiré 2020â during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, he returned with the studio album Ãlex Ubago: 20 Años, released on 13 May 2022, a 20th-anniversary project in which he re-recorded many of his best-known songs with guest vocalists including Jesús Navarro (Reik), Matisse, Beret, La Oreja de Van Gogh, Antonio Orozco, Pablo López, Lali and others, and supported the release with extensive touring across Spain and Latin America. In October 2024 he issued Galerna, his eighth studio album, a 10-track set structured in two halves, with a more experimental âside Aâ led by singles such as âIdiotaâ, âNo volveré a pensar en tiâ and âYo no te olvido,â and a more organic, classic Ubago ballad style on âside B,â marking a deliberate stylistic shift while keeping his melodic, romantic songwriting at the core.
