AlaÃde Costa Silveira Mondin Gomide, known as AlaÃde Costa, was born on December 8, 1935, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She started her musical career at a young age, winning local singing competitions and appearing on radio shows. Her professional debut came in 1957 at the Avenida club in Rio de Janeiro. Costa released her first album, Gosto de você (1959), featuring compositions by prominent bossa nova artists such as João Gilberto and Tom Jobim. Throughout the 1960s, she released several albums, including AlaÃde canta suavemente (1960) and AlaÃde, jóia moderna (1961). In 1972, Costa returned to the music scene with contributions to the album Clube da Esquina. Her later works include collaborations with notable artists like Paulinho da Viola and Egberto Gismonti on her album Amiga de verdade (1988).
