The Argentine hard rock trio Airbag was formed by siblings Gastón, Patricio, and Guido Sardelli in 1999. Hailing from Don Torcuato, Buenos Aires, the group started performing under the name Los Nietos de Chuck, since a large part of their live repertoire consisted of Chuck Berry covers. Shortly after, they began writing original material and adopted the name Airbag. In 2003, they landed their first major-label contract after one of their demos caught the attention of the executives at Warner Music. Recorded and mixed in just one week, their eponymous studio debut appeared in 2004 and quickly achieved platinum sales in Argentina thanks to hits like "La Partida de la Gitana (Si Te Vas)" and "Quiero Estar Contigo." The album was promoted through a South American tour that ended with two sold-out shows at the Gran Rex theater. Similar in style to its predecessor, their second full-length Blanco y Negro saw the light in 2006 and helped the band win Best Newcomer Artists of the South at the 2007 MTV Awards. Airbag's winning streak continued in 2008 with the release of Una Hora a Tokyo, a harder-sounding album that steered away from the teenage pop of early releases and embraced their hard rock influences. In 2009, Una Hora a Tokyo was nominated for Best Rock Album at the Latin Grammys. Subsequent releases like Vorágine (2011), Samsara (2012), Libertad (2013), and Mentira la Verdad (2016), as well as a relentless touring schedule, helped establish Airbag as one of the most important rock acts not only in Argentina but also in Latin America. After several years focused on touring, they returned in October 2021 with the ambitious album Al parecer todo ha sido una trampa, whose songs such as "Por mil noches," "Cae el sol," and the Enanitos Verdes collaboration "Volver a casa" reintroduced them to a new generation and set up the large-scale Jinetes Cromados Tour, including multiple sold-out Movistar Arena dates in 2023 and three shows at Estadio Vélez Sarsfield in December 2023, documented on the live album En Vivo â Estadio Vélez in 2024. In March 2025 they released their eighth studio album El club de la pelea I, preceded by the singles "Nunca lo olvides", "AnarquÃa en Buenos Aires" and "Verte de cerca", and presented it with two sold-out stadium concerts at River Plate on May 31 and June 1, 2025.
