Biography

Agricantus, an Italian musical group, was founded in Palermo, Italy, in 1979. The band drew inspiration from Andean music and South American folk culture, performing extensively throughout Europe. In the early 1980s, Agricantus became part of the popular Sicilian folk scene. Agricantus achieved artistic maturity in the mid-1990s with the release of Gnanzù!, a concept album dedicated to the music of Southern Italy. The band's lineup evolved over time, including members such as Tonj Acquaviva and Rosie Wiederkehr. In 1996, they released their most representative album, Tuareg, which earned them several national awards. Agricantus also collaborated with the cinema world, contributing to soundtracks like Placido Rizzotto (2000).
