Biography

Abra Moore's mesmerizing voice found its footing in the offbeat Hawaiian group Poi Dog Pondering during the mid-1980s. Moore was born on June 8, 1968, in San Diego, California, and raised in Puna, Hawaii. She ventured solo in the late 1980s, moving to Los Angeles in 1988 and then to Austin, Texas four years later. The folk-pop singer-songwriter released her debut solo album, Sing, in 1995 and its rockier follow-up, Strangest Places, two years later. Moore received a Grammy nod for her album single "Four Leaf Clover", which was nominated for the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. She went on to release three more albums, including On the Way in 2007 and has appeared in numerous films, including Richard Linklater's 1991 cult classic, Slacker.
