Abderrahmane Abdelli, known professionally as Abdelli, was born on April 2, 1958, in Behlil-Afir, Kabylie, Algeria. He began his musical journey by crafting his first guitar from a discarded oil can and wood. Abdelli's early performances included winning amateur singing contests across Algeria. Abdelli released his debut album in 1986, recorded at Studio YUGURTEN under the direction of Mustapha LAHCENE. He later moved to Belgium, where he collaborated with Thierry Van Roy on the album New Moon, which featured influences from various countries including Chile, Morocco, and Ukraine. This collaboration marked a significant shift towards world music for Abdelli. His subsequent albums include Among Brothers (2003), Destiny (2011). Abdelli has performed at major festivals such as WOMAD, touring extensively across Europe, North America, Pakistan, and Morocco. Notable collaborations include work with Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Peter Gabriel, Loreena McKennitt, and Omar Farouk Takbilek.
