Biography

A meteoric Franco-Algerian group, Nomads are best known for their 1998 summer hit "Yakalelo". The project was born when two French musicians, Philippe Jacquot and Laurent Dafurio, returned from a trip to Morocco and produced a demo of a house track to which they wanted to add Arabic rhythms. After crossing paths with American producer Earl Talbot, who owned a professional studio and joined the group, they began looking for a singer, who was found in the person of Hamidou Takdjout, discovered at a concert. Once the title had been finalized and the name Nomads found, they canvassed record companies and accepted a proposal from Une Musique, the music subsidiary of the TF1 television group, which made "Yakalelo" its summer 1998 hit, accompanied by a video shot in the powerful Moroccan desert advertising campaign. The song quickly established itself on the radio and in the charts, reaching No. 2 in France, No. 4 in Belgium, No. 10 in the Netherlands and No. 81 in the UK. yakalelo", certified a diamond disc, was followed by the singles "Selibabi" and "Wali Wali", and the album Better World (1999).
