Biography

Daisuke Asakura and Hiroyuki Takami formed the Japanese electropop group Access in 1992. Fast Access, the duo's full-length debut album, was released early the following year and reached number 2 in Japan, introducing the band's blend of synthesized soundscapes and pop melodies. Its most successful single, "Virgin Emotion," gave the band its first Top 40 hit on the Oricon Singles chart. The sophomore album Access II followed in late 1992 and earned a pair of Top 10 singles with "Naked Desire" (which reached number 3) and "Moonshine Dance" (which reached number 4). Delicate Planet followed in May 1994 and became the band's most commercially-successful album to date, reaching Number 1 on the Oricon Albums chart and spawning more than a half-dozen Top 10 hits, including the number 2 single "Misty Heartbreak" and a trio of number 3 hits: "Because I Want To Dream," "Drastic Mermaid," "Scandalous Blue," and "Tear's Liberation." Starting in 1995, the band embarked upon a seven-year hiatus, which ended with the release of another Top 5 single, "Only the Love Survive," in 2002. The same year, the group released a comeback album, Crossbridge, which charted at number 6 in Japan. Crossbridge was followed by 2003's Rippin' Ghost, 2007's Binary Engine, 2012's Secret Cluster, and 2017's Heart Mining.
