18th Dye was a German-Danish noise rock band formed in Berlin in 1992 by Sebastian Büttrich, Piet Breinholm-Bendtsen, and Heike Rädeker. The trio gained international attention after being discovered by Yo La Tengo, leading to a contract with Matador Records. They released their debut studio album, Done, in 1992, followed by the EP Crayon in 1993. The group performed at the Roskilde Festival in 1993 and recorded three Peel Sessions between 1994 and 1999. Their second album, Tribute to a Bus, was recorded by producer Steve Albini and released in 1995. The ensemble disbanded in 1999, during which time Büttrich and Bendtsen formed the bands Kikkert and Test. The group reunited in the summer of 2005 and released their final studio album, Amorine Queen, in 2008. 18th Dye announced their permanent separation on January 29, 2010, stating they were no longer able to compose as a band. Following the split, Bendtsen established a leather design company in Copenhagen.
