Biography

American rapper from Atlanta, Georgia, 12 Gauge is best known for his single hit "Dunkie Butt". His real name is Isiah Pinkney, born in 1968, and he began his career as a DJ before taking the microphone. Influenced by the Miami Bass style, which he blended with Southern rap, 12 Gauge evolved in the local Atlanta scene and produced three albums under his own name. The first and best-known, 12 Gauge, was released in 1994 on the Scotti Bros. label, and reached #141 on the Billboard 200, driven by the track "Dunkie Butt", which stayed on the charts for 21 weeks and peaked at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second album, Let Me Ride Again (1995), failed to repeat this performance, and it was under the Power Records label that 12 Gauge bounced back in 1998 with the album The Freaky One, without any further success. In 1999, his name appeared on the soundtrack of the film Whiteboys with the track "Pimps VIP". Ten years later, he made an unsuccessful comeback with the album Da Shotgun Kid.
