Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers were a Jamaican-American reggae family group formed in 1979 and consisted of the children of musicians Rita Marley and Bob Marley. They began under the name the Melody Makers, recording the single âChildren Playing in the Streetsâ (1979) for the United Nations, and later released their debut album Play the Game Right (1985), followed by Hey World! (1986). In 1988, the group released Conscious Party (1988), which peaked at number 23 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy for Best Reggae Album; the single âTomorrow Peopleâ (1988) from the album charted at number 16 on the Mainstream Rock chart, and âTumblin' Downâ (1988) reached Number 1 on the dance sales chart. The subsequent album One Bright Day (1989) reached number 26 on the Billboard 200 and produced the dance hit âLook Who's Dancin'â (1989). After releasing Jahmekya (1991), the band signed with Elektra and released Free Like We Want 2 B (1995), Fallen Is Babylon (1997), and Spirit of Music (1999).
