Biography

Zen Café was a Finnish rock band founded in Turku in 1992 by Samuli Putro, Kari Nylander, Mikko Oesch, and Tuomo Mäkipaavola. Deriving their name from Robert M. Pirsig's book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Zen Café released their debut album Laiska, Tyhmä, Saamaton in March 2005. The band's lineup evolved with Pete Parkkonen replacing Mäkipaavola on drums. Their subsequent albums included Vuokralainen / Album 2002 (August 2005) and their final album Stop in September 2006. Notable singles include "Piha ilman sadettajaa/Tien päällä joka päivä" (August 2003), "Rakastele mua" (July 2006). After the release of Stop, Zen Café entered a long hiatus without officially disbanding. Lead vocalist Samuli Putro pursued a successful solo career, releasing multiple albums including Elämä on juhla in February 2009 and Älä sammu aurinko in March 2011.
