Biography

Zascha Moktan, born 23 December 1981 in New Delhi, India, is a Nepalese‑German singer, pianist and guitarist whose early exposure to gospel choir work in London laid the groundwork for a career that would span multiple genres. After moving to Frankfurt at age six, she began piano lessons at eight and later joined her school choir, completing formal classical training before forming a punk‑rock band in the mid‑1990s that earned the title of Best Hessian Newcomer Band in 2000. Moktan’s breakthrough came in 2003 when she supported Craig David on his German tour, followed by a U.S. tour with Alicia Keys and John Legend in 2005, prompting her to pause hair‑dressing studies in Hamburg. In 2006 she signed with Universal Music Group, and her debut single "Ouch!" was released on 9 November 2007, reaching Number 36 on the German Singles Top 100 and earning her the Bayern 3 Newcomer of the Month award in September 2007. Her debut album The Bottom Line followed in 2008, peaking at Number 38 on the German Albums Top 100, while singles such as "Like U Do" (Number 76) and "Strangers" (2011) expanded her discography.
