Biography

The Vienna Boys' Choir is an Austrian boy choir from Vienna established in 1498. They achieved professional recognition for being one of the most famous boy choirs in the world and serving as cultural ambassadors for Austria. The ensemble was founded by Maximilian I and was originally known as the court choir. They achieved professional recognition for a modern incarnation that began in 1924 when the group was formally organized as a society after the dissolution of the Hofmusikkapelle in 1920. Their recording career included the studio recording FrÃ¶hliche Weihnacht Ã¼berall (1965) which reached number 19 on the German charts. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for performing concerts conducted by the musicians Herbert von Karajan and Riccardo Muti. The Vienna Boys' Choir achieved professional recognition for receiving the Karl-Renner-Preis in 1963. Their discography included the studio recording Wiener SÃ¤ngerknaben Goes Pop (2002) and the studio recording Strauss For Ever (2018). They achieved professional recognition for receiving the European Culture Prize in 2023.
