Biography

The Vienna Boys' Choir is one of the world's most renowned boys' choirs, tracing its origins to the Court Chapel Boys' Choir (Hofcapell-Singknaben), founded in Vienna in 1498 by King Maximilian I. Following the dissolution of the Court Chapel in 1920, the Vienna Boys' Choir was officially established as an independent association in 1924 and has since grown into a professional music institution comprising four individual choirs. The ensemble performs around 300 concerts worldwide each year and has worked with distinguished conductors including Herbert von Karajan, Riccardo Muti, and Zubin Mehta. Recipient of the Karl Renner Prize in 1963, the choir remains one of Austria's foremost ambassadors of choral and classical music.
