Biography

Inspired by Georges Brassens and author of the timeless "Prendre un enfant" (1977), Yves Duteil is an old-fashioned singer, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine on July 24, 1949. Since 1977 and La Tarentelle, he has been the defender of a French tradition that makes no concessions to fashion, as demonstrated by the success of "La Langue de chez nous" (1986), moving a very wide audience. This troubadour, sometimes mocked for his excess of good feelings, is a true humanist who makes the world less cruel with his sensitive lyrics and apt melodies. Mayor of Précy-sur-Marne from 1989 to 2014, he continued to write new songs for the albums Blessures d'Enfance (1990), Lignes de Vie (1993) and Touché (1997). Loyal to the EMI label from the outset, he set up his own label, Les Editions de l'Ecritoire, under which the artist's personal, independent records were released, including Sans Attendre in 2001 and (Fr)Agiles in 2008. Since the live album Yves Duteil au Théâtre Dejazet (2009), his appearances have become rarer and his releases sparser, and the craftsman of song has taken his time to give birth to Flagrant Délice in 2012, followed by Respect in 2018. After the 4-CD retrospective Chemins de Liberté and accompanying book in 2021, the songwriter returns to the stage, and in 2024 appears Yves Duteil at the Théâtre des Folies-Bergère.
