Japanese pianist Yuko Suzuhana rose to prominence as the leader of Wagakki Band, famous for combining heavy metal music with Shigin, a traditional form of poetry. She began taking classical piano lessons at the age of 3 and went on to study Shigin and Kenshibu, a type of interpretive dance very popular in Japan. After graduating from the Tokyo College of Music, Yuko Suzuhana became the singer of pop group Asty, with whom she released three albums between 2010 and 2012. Following Asty’s disbandment, she teamed up with Kaminaga Daisuke and Ibukuro Kiyoshi to form the group Hanafugetsu, which set the basis for Suzuhana’s next project, the fusion metal eight-piece Wagakki Band. In 2016, she made her official solo debut with the album Cradle of Eternity, a more commercial-sounding album that peaked at Number 6 on the Oricon charts. Yuko Suzuhana continued to release albums with Wagakki Band and resumed her solo career with the single “Campanula,” which premiered via her video-sharing channel in June 2021. Picking up where Cradle of Eternity left off, the single featured a glossy J-Pop aesthetic and climbed to Number 31 on KKBox’s Top 50 chart.
