Biography

Yoshiko Kishino (born on October 15, 1960) is a classically-trained pianist, composer, and arranger whose influences range from rock to bossa nova and contemporary jazz. Her first three albums, Fairy Tale (1995), Photograph (1996), and Rendez-Vous (1997) were all recorded in New York. All three releases were well-received by critics both internationally and locally. In 1999, she released You Are So Beautiful, which became one of the best-selling Japanese albums that year. Tenderness (2000) was recorded in Los Angeles with the help of a full symphonic orchestra. In 2002, she released Siesta, a Bossa Nova album featuring her versions of some of the genre’s most enduring classics. 2004’s Praha was recorded in Prague with studio musicians George Mraz and Pavel Zboril. Heartscape and Timescape, both released in 2005, were certified Gold by Swing Journal magazine. After releasing Bossa Nostalgia (2006), her second Bossa Nova album, she spent the following years writing movie soundtracks (Nihon No Jitensha Dorobo) and touring with her band throughout the world. With You, her collaboration with jazz singer Shigeko Suzuki, came out in 2011 via Sony Music. She recorded and released Hope and Furusato in 2013, inspired by the victims of the Tohoku Earthquake. Her 20th album, Nuage (2018), was inspired by her experiences touring throughout Europe.
