Biography

Vinícius Gageiro Marques, known professionally as Yoñlu, was a Brazilian singer-songwriter born on September 1, 1989, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. From an early age, Marques showed a keen interest in music, learning to play the drums, piano, and guitar by the time he was four years old. His first album Yoñlu, was released posthumously in 2008 on the Allegro label. This was followed by A Society in Which No Tear Is Shed Is Inconceivably Mediocre in 2009, which was internationally released by Luaka Bop after former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne took an interest in Marques' story. The album received critical acclaim. Marques' life and music were later adapted into the film Yonlu, directed by Hique Motanari and released in 2018, starring Thalles Cabral as Yoñlu.
