Biography
Yehuda Leon Poliker, born Leonidas Polikaris on December 25, 1950, in Kiryat Haim, Israel, is a singer-songwriter, musician, and painter. His parents were Greek Jews who survived the Holocaust. In 1981, Poliker began his music career with the band Benzene, releasing two albums: 24 Sha'ot and Mishmeret Layla, which included successful singles like "Hofshi Ze Legamrei Levad" ("Free is totally alone") and "Geshem" ("Rain"). After Benzene disbanded, Poliker started a solo career in 1985 with the album Einaim Shely (These eyes of mine), featuring Greek songs translated into Hebrew. His subsequent albums include Kholem Behakitz (1986), Efer VeAvak (Ashes and Dust) (1988), which sold over 70,000 copies, and Pakhot Aval Ko'ev (It hurts but less) (1990). In 2001, Poliker released "Eih Korim Laahava Sheli?" ("What is my love called?") which won the ACUM "Song of the Year" award.
