World of Twist, an English indie pop band, was formed in Sheffield in 1985. The original lineup underwent several changes before settling in Manchester. In 1986, a short-lived version featured Gordon King as vocalist and co-songwriter, alongside Tony Ogden and Andy Hobson. The 1989 lineup included Ogden as vocalist, King on guitar, Alan Frost on visual effects and synthesisers, Julia aka M.C. Shells contributing swirls and sea noises, Angela Reilly on visual effects, and Nick Sanderson on drums. World of Twist released a demo tape in early 1990 featuring "The Storm", "Blackpool Tower Suite", "The Spring", and "She's a Rainbow". This led to a recording contract with Circa Records. Their debut album Quality Street was released in 1991 but received little critical or commercial acclaim. Despite this, "Sons of the Stage" became an indie/club hit in Toronto and New York, and was later covered by Beady Eye as a B-side to their debut single "Bring the Light". Internal creative differences led to their disbandment in 1992. Tony Ogden passed away on July 26, 2006. Quality Street was reissued with bonus tracks by 3 Loop Music in 2013.
