Biography

Mike McGear, born Peter Michael McCartney on January 7, 1944, in Liverpool, is an English singer, songwriter, photographer, and former member of The Scaffold. He adopted the stage name Mike McGear to avoid trading on the fame of his brother, Paul McCartney. With The Scaffold, he scored UK hits including "Thank U Very Much" (1967) and the Christmas Number 1 track "Lily the Pink" (1968). He also collaborated with Roger McGough on the album McGough & McGear (1968). His best-known solo release, McGear (1974), was recorded with Paul McCartney and members of Wings, and included the single "Leave It", which reached number 36 in the UK. McGear later focused primarily on photography while remaining an influential figure in Liverpool's cultural scene.
